Chapter 58 The Plan Succeeded
Chapter 58 The Plan Succeeded
After leaving Qin Shuang's apartment, Lin Yu went straight back to the police station.
The door to Shen Bing's office was ajar, letting in light.
Lin Yu knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Shen Bing was sitting behind her desk reading documents when she heard footsteps. She looked up and her eyes softened when she saw Lin Yu.
"What's up?"
Lin Yu closed the door and walked to the table: "Director, I have something important to report. I've discovered signs of damage to the protective wall."
Shen Bing paused, pen in hand. She stared at Lin Yu for a few seconds, her expression grave. "Are you sure?"
"In the southeast section, there are signs of damage to the wall foundation, the method was professional, the aim was to weaken the protective patterns." Lin Yu said calmly.
"The traces are very fresh, no more than forty-eight hours ago."
Shen Bing stood up and walked to the window.
The reason why Jiangcheng can still be called Jiangcheng, instead of being designated as an occupied area, is because of this wall.
Without the wall, Jiangcheng would instantly become a living hell.
A hint of fear flashed in Shen Bing's eyes. Firstly, she didn't want to see a large number of casualties, and secondly, if the wall was destroyed, her career would be completely ruined.
"Who did it?" she asked.
"I don't know, but they might make another move tonight. I need you to come with me."
Lin Yu spoke in a defiant tone, "Chief, you don't want Jiangcheng to become hell, do you?"
Shen Bing's chest heaved. Strange, why did her heart skip a beat when she heard those words?
She walked back to the table, placed her hands on the surface, and looked down at Lin Yu: "What time is it?"
"Qin Shuang and Qin Xue will also go in the early morning."
Shen Bing raised an eyebrow: "The investigation team? You even managed to persuade them?"
Shen Bing rubbed her temples: "Does Li Rui know?"
"I didn't tell him," Lin Yu said calmly. "The saboteurs could be anyone, including members of the investigation team."
Shen Bing's eyes sharpened, and she roughly guessed the meaning behind Lin Yu's words.
The two exchanged a glance, and then Lin Yu said with a faint smile, "Chief, 1 a.m., assemble at the abandoned observation tower on the outer wall of the southeast section."
Lin Yu stood up: "Don't be late, Director. Remember to wear something warm, it'll be cold at night."
Shen Bing was stunned for a moment, but Lin Yu had already opened the door and walked out.

1 a.m....
The fog outside the wall was thicker than during the day, completely swallowing the moonlight, and visibility was less than twenty meters.
The abandoned observation tower is located 300 meters southeast of the wall. It is a reinforced concrete building left over from the old era. It is three stories high, with the top floor offering the best view, but the stairs are mostly rusted.
Lin Yu was the first to arrive, and he was resting with his eyes closed in the shadows at the base of the tower.
Footsteps approached, very light, but there was more than one person.
Lin Yu opened his eyes.
Three figures quietly converged from different directions.
Qin Xue was dressed in a black combat uniform, her long hair was tied up tightly, her face was expressionless, and she was carrying a silver-gray metal box in her hand.
Qin Shuang was still wearing the same dark hoodie and short skirt, her sheer black stockings gleaming faintly in the dim light. She skipped over to Lin Yu and naturally took his arm.
"Brother Lin Yu, have you been waiting long?"
"Just arrived." Lin Yu pinched Qin Shuang's pert buttocks.
Shen Bing emerged from the fog on the other side, wearing a dark gray trench coat, with her long hair loose and a mask on her face.
She saw Qin Shuang holding Lin Yu's arm, her eyes lingered for a moment, but she didn't say anything more.
"Everyone's here." Lin Yu pulled his arm away. "Let's go up."
The stairs were badly rusted, and creaked with every step.
The four climbed to the top of the tower.
The view was expansive, and the walls in the southeast section were faintly visible through the fog.
Qin Xue opened the metal box and took out a palm-sized instrument; the screen lit up faintly.
"A high-sensitivity energy monitoring device," she explained in a low voice. "It can detect energy fluctuations within a radius of 500 meters."
Shen Bing glanced at the instrument, then looked at Lin Yu: "Are you sure it's tonight?"
Although Lin Yu knew when Li Rui would arrive, he still vaguely replied, "I'm not sure, but the signs of damage are continuous, and the intervals won't exceed three days."
Qin Shuang squatted down next to Lin Yu, resting her chin on her knees: "What if we can't wait any longer?"
"To be continued tomorrow."
The top of the tower fell silent, with only the sound of flowing gray mist.
1:47 a.m.
The screen of the monitoring device in Qin Xue's hand suddenly started to flicker violently.
"They're here."
All four of them looked towards the wall at the same time.
In the gray fog, a figure approached from afar.
He wore a dark cloak with the hood pulled low, and a metal mask over his face.
The figure walked to the base of the wall, stopped, looked around, and only raised its right hand after confirming that it was safe.
A dark red flame ignited in his palm, illuminating a radius of three meters.
Qin Xue had already turned on the camera equipment and pointed the lens downwards.
The cloaked man pressed his left hand against the wall, and flames spread along his fingertips, crawling across the protective patterns on the wall like living things.
The dim lines began to twist and fade under the scorching flames.
"Shall we make a move?" Shen Bing asked in a low voice.
"Wait a little longer." Lin Yu stared down below.
Qin Xue's camera faithfully recorded everything.
Li Rui was so focused on destruction that he was completely unaware of the four pairs of eyes watching from the top of the tower.
Lin Yu raised his hand: "That's enough." As soon as he finished speaking, he jumped down from the top of the tower.
Three stories high, landing with knees slightly bent, making no sound.
Qin Shuang almost cried out, but quickly covered her mouth.
Hearing the noise, Li Rui turned around abruptly, revealing a pair of astonished eyes under his hood.
The flames instantly transformed into chains, whistling as they swept towards Lin Yu!
Lin Yu neither dodged nor avoided, but reached out with his left hand and grabbed the chain.
The dark red flames struck his hand, but it was as if they had crashed into a black hole, instantly swallowed up.
Black and red flames exploded from Lin Yu's palm, spreading backward along the chains, and in the blink of an eye, they burned Li Rui's wrist!
Li Rui screamed and tried to pull his hand away, but it was too late.
Lin Yu closed in and unleashed a powerful punch!
The fist, wreathed in black and red flames, tore through the air and struck the opponent's chest.
"Bang--!"
A dull thud rang out, and Li Rui was sent flying backward, his back slamming heavily against the wall.
The mask shattered, revealing his face, which was filled with horror.
"Lin Yu?! You...it's impossible..."
He looked down at his chest and saw a hole the size of a fist. No blood was flowing out because the wound was instantly sealed by the high temperature.
Lin Yu's second punch had already landed.
This time it's the throat.
As the fist grazed past, Li Rui's neck snapped backward at an unnatural angle.
The sound of the cervical vertebrae cracking could be clearly heard.
Li Rui's eyes widened, his pupils dilated, and his body slid down the wall, falling to the ground dead.
From the moment Lin Yu jumped down to the moment Li Rui fell to the ground, the entire process took less than six seconds.
The top of the tower was deathly silent.
Qin Shuang covered her mouth, her eyes wide open.
Qin Xue's camera was still recording, but her expression was equally shocked.
Lin Yu looked up at the top of the tower: "Did you get a clear picture?"
Qin Xue took a deep breath and turned off the camera: "...It's clear now."
"Come down."
When the three of them came down from the top of the tower, their steps were a little unsteady.
