Chapter 306: Secret Contest
Chapter 306: Secret Contest
Qiao Xixi was a little curious.
’Maybe it really does feel different?’
’No!’
’No, no, no!’
’Lust really messes with your head!’
Qiao Xixi covered his lips as he leaned in again. "Xiya has been so worried. We have to go back and let her see us, or she’s going to cry."
Xiya was definitely another one of Xijing’s major weaknesses. As reluctant as he was, he fiercely suppressed the desire Qiao Xixi had stirred in him for the sake of his daughter.
"Then... when?"
"Definitely not now. Let’s go back first!"
Afraid he would press the issue, Qiao Xixi quickly pulled him along, swimming rapidly toward the salt fields.
By the time they returned to the island, Ximing had already led the merfolk in clearing out all the Land Beasts.
Qiao Xixi was worried about Xiya, so Xijing had Ximing send someone to bring them over.
"Has Sunxiao not come back yet?" She glanced around but couldn’t see any sign of him.
"He chased them to the edge of the forest."
Qiao Xixi opened the tracker and looked. She saw that Sunxiao’s location was indeed outside the forest, and he was still moving quickly. He was probably chasing the remaining Land Beasts.
Xijing turned towards Ximing and asked, "What are our casualties?"
"We’ve placed all the injured in the stone houses."
Xijing nodded, "I’ll go over and check on them in a bit."
"Brother, what should we do with the rest of the Shark Beast clansmen?"
They had wiped out the Shark Beast Clan’s fighting force this time. Most of those left were the old, the weak, women, and children. They couldn’t kill them all, but without the protection of their strong males, the remaining Shark Beasts wouldn’t pose a threat for at least a few decades.
"Banish them from these waters."
"Yes."
The island was too chaotic, and Xijing, worried there might be other dangers, took Qiao Xixi to the stone house where they had stayed by the salt fields.
"Xixi, wait here. Xiya and the others will be here soon."
Qiao Xixi glanced at the wounds on his body and frowned. "Where are you going?"
"We’ve just been through a major battle, and there are still many clan matters to handle. I have to leave for a while."
"You have so many injuries. Let me treat them first, then you can go."
As Qiao Xixi spoke, she went to grab his hand, but Xijing gently tried to pull away. "Xixi, it doesn’t hurt... HISS." Before he could finish, he sucked in a sharp breath.
Qiao Xixi shot him a reproachful look. "Stop trying to be tough. You’ve been scored like a fish and you say it doesn’t hurt?"
Qiao Xixi first used Spiritual Spring water to clean his wounds, then took out Recovery Glue and applied it to them.
"Just bear with it. You’ll recover quickly after I apply this medicine..."
"Xixi, I don’t..."
Before he could finish, the door to the stone house was pushed open, and a figure reeking of blood walked in.
Qiao Xixi was surprised. "Sunxiao, you’re back so soon."
His crimson pupils swept indifferently over Xijing. His stride had been steady and powerful, but as he took another step, he suddenly staggered. His upright body swayed, but he quickly regained his footing.
But Qiao Xixi caught this quick correction. She let go of Xijing’s hand and hurried forward to support him.
"What’s wrong? Are you hurt?"
Sunxiao gave a low "mhm," but cleverly shifted some of his weight onto her.
Qiao Xixi was convinced he was truly injured; after all, he had faced so many beastmen all by himself.
"Quick, let me see. Where are you hurt?"
Qiao Xixi helped him sit down next to Xijing and started to remove his animal-hide clothes.
For once, Sunxiao was uncharacteristically obedient, not moving an inch. He was very cooperative, lifting his arms and legs as needed.
When the animal-hide clothes were off, she saw his skin, so pale it was almost bloodless, covered in wounds of all sizes. Qiao Xixi’s brow furrowed so tightly you could have killed a fly in the creases.
"Don’t move. I’ll put some medicine on for you."
Qiao Xixi also used Spiritual Spring water to rinse his wounds before applying medicine. For the larger cuts, she used Strong Healing Glue. She still had some left from her last exchange, and after she applied it, the bleeding stopped quickly.
Xijing sat quietly to the side, but he could feel the intense aura Sunxiao was deliberately releasing. This aura practically enveloped Qiao Xixi, clinging to her.
Xijing pressed his lips together. ’This big snake is so domineering.’
"Xixi, my wounds don’t hurt anymore, so I’ll head out. Make sure Sunxiao rests and recovers." With that, Xijing stood up.
However, before he could even leave, he weakly grabbed the doorframe for support.
"You don’t move either!"
Qiao Xixi rushed over and pulled him back to sit on the bed.
"Neither of you move! Wait until I’ve treated both of you. Besides, isn’t Ximing handling things outside?"
Xijing seized the opportunity to pull Qiao Xixi’s hand, bringing her closer. A sea breeze blew through the wooden window, rustling his hair and dispersing the aura Sunxiao had wrapped around her.
Sunxiao’s snake-like eyes darkened. With a wave of his large hand, the wooden window slammed shut with a BANG.
Inside the stone house, the two auras clashed invisibly.
On the surface, both males sat perfectly still, like two well-behaved children.
Qiao Xixi, completely focused on their wounds, didn’t notice the strange, silent battle between the two males at all.
"Mother, Father!"
The clear, childish call shattered the two males’ secret contest.
When Xiya burst in, she stopped in surprise.
’How strange.’ Xiya shivered as she entered the house, but her gaze was quickly drawn to the wounds on Xijing.
"Father, you’re hurt."
As a father, he absolutely didn’t want his child to worry about him.
So, Xijing was the first to retract his aura. He revealed a faint smile. "It’s just a small injury. Look, Xiya, Father is already fine."
Xiya held Xijing’s hand and expressed how much she had missed her father, but because of his injuries, she didn’t pounce into his arms.
After Qiao Xixi finished treating their wounds, she got them clean clothes to wear.
This time when Xijing stood up, his body was much steadier.
"Xixi, your medicine is amazing. I feel like I’m almost completely healed."
"You’re okay now?"
Xijing nodded. "Sunxiao’s injuries are more serious. You should stay and look after him. I’ll go handle the clan’s affairs."
"Alright, then. Be careful, and if you start feeling unwell, get some rest right away."
"Mhm."
Xijing turned to Sunxiao. "Sunxiao, thank you."
Sunxiao’s expression remained indifferent, betraying no emotion. "I only did it for Xixi."
"Regardless of your reasons, you are a benefactor to our merman clan."
"Father Sunxiao, Xiya thanks you too."
The coldness in Sunxiao’s eyes softened slightly. "You... talk too much."
Xijing gave a faint smile and turned to leave the stone house. But just as he reached the doorway, he came face-to-face with a dark figure.
Sangze stood with his arms crossed. As Xijing approached, he sneered and stuck out his foot to block his path.
The curve of Xijing’s lips deepened. He lifted his foot and stomped down.
The savagery deep in Sangze’s pupils erupted in an instant!
