Chapter 242 - 239: Why Don’t You Ask Him?
Clara Grant paused, took another small sip of wine, and then answered dazedly, "I don’t know."
"Well, let me put it another way—do you care?" Sarah Shelby sat up straighter, her gaze serious as she asked again.
Clara Grant’s answer was surprisingly prompt this time. "I don’t care."
Sarah Shelby smiled. "Really? Then why is there such a forlorn look in your eyes when you talk about it?"
Sarah didn’t believe her for a second. She could tell just from her friend’s expression and tone.
It suddenly occurred to Sarah, ’Maybe Clara has already fallen for Seth Quinn without even realizing it.’
’The way she’s acting... she’s clearly jealous.’
Clara Grant’s gaze wavered. "What are you talking about?"
But Sarah didn’t tease her further. Instead, she fell silent for a few seconds before speaking again. "I knew that Seth Quinn once had a fiancée."
’Because of her father, she couldn’t tell Clara everything she knew, but she could at least give her friend a few hints.’
The moment Clara Grant heard her say she knew, she immediately sat bolt upright and looked at her, her body tense. The hand holding the wine glass tightened slightly, and her empty hand subconsciously curled into a fist.
"From what I heard, they were together for several years, right up until they were discussing marriage. But then, for some unknown reason, Seth Quinn suddenly called off the engagement himself. As for why, I don’t know either. So," Sarah paused before continuing,
"As for whether Seth Quinn was truly in love with his ex-fiancée, or if he’s still hung up on her now... why don’t you just ask him directly? Trust me, no one would know the answer better than him."
"Ask him? Why should I ask him?" Clara Grant turned her head away like a pouting child.
"Because you’re his wife now. It doesn’t matter what his past was like or who he was with. You’re the one who’s truly by his side now. If you want to know about his past, you have every right to... ask him."
Halfway through her sentence, she heard her phone chime with a text notification. She finished what she was saying as she glanced down at her phone, where a new message sat quietly on the screen.
It was a very short message: Is Clara with you? Seth Quinn.
A faint smile touched the corners of Sarah Shelby’s lips. She replied with a question of her own: How did Mr. Quinn get my number?
After sending the text, she tossed her phone aside and picked up where she left off.
"Of course, whether or not he decides to tell you is his prerogative. But I have a feeling that if you ask, he’ll tell you everything. After all, I can see his feelings for you are anything but ordinary."
"Really?" Sarah’s last words made Clara Grant laugh bitterly. "His feelings for me are anything but ordinary? Oh, yeah. He sees me as..." ’A tool for his sexual release. Of course that’s not ordinary.’
But she didn’t dare say the last part out loud.
She tilted her head back and downed the wine in her glass.
Sarah grew concerned. "Hey, slow down. Don’t you know you get drunk easily if you drink too fast?"
"I’m fine. It’s just one glass, I won’t get drunk." Clara Grant casually wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and, before Sarah could stop her, poured herself another.
Her phone chimed with another text. Sarah glanced down. "If I want to know something, I can find it out. Please answer my question. Is Clara with you?"
’Well... that’s so typically Seth Quinn. Domineering, yet still gentlemanly.’
