Chapter 882 - 852
Chapter 882 - 852
It was that very evening that Qiao Qiqi announced this matter to everyone.
Everyone in the Rong Family was stunned, as if struck by a bolt from the blue!
This year was supposed to be their first New Year’s Eve with their little sister. They’d already thought about how to celebrate: buying a whole bunch of fireworks to set off with her, going racing with her, wrapping dumplings together, eating dumplings together, going around to pay New Year’s calls together. They’d even prepared red envelopes for her...
And now they were being told... their little sister wouldn’t be spending the New Year at home with them, but was going off to some damn place out of town instead?
The few grown men instantly wilted.
Even though they were extremely reluctant, in the end they still supported her decision.
After dinner, Rong Shu came back. He scooped Nuonuo into his arms and wouldn’t let go; he really did like this granddaughter.
"Take a look at this." Rong Shu took out a small red booklet and set it on the table.
The brothers exchanged looks, then leaned over to take a closer look.
Divorce certificate???
"You got divorced?" Qiao Qiqi looked in surprise at the old man coaxing the child beside her—oh, no, her uncle.
"Mm. I could put up with those little tricks she pulled before, but when she tried to hurt Nuonuo, that I couldn’t tolerate." Rong Shu said.
The mood of Rong Yuan and the other brothers suddenly became complicated. They really hadn’t expected their dad would actually divorce that woman for Nuonuo’s sake.
To be fair, it’s not like that woman was some monstrous villain; she’d never managed to stir up any real waves. But she was like the toad on the shoe—doesn’t bite, just makes your skin crawl.
Divorced is divorced, then.
...
Qiao Qiqi and Shui Qingcheng took a high-speed train to a provincial capital, then transferred to a bus, and then to a shady three-wheeler... After jolting along for over ten hours, they finally made it to the village they were assigned to, just before dark.
The village was backed by mountains and faced water; the environment was actually quite nice. It was just that the houses here were way too shabby—still made of mud bricks, lots of them had already collapsed, and no one had rebuilt them.
The village chief warmly welcomed the two university students into the village and led them to where they’d be staying. Qiao Qiqi’s expression stayed calm the whole time, while Shui Qingcheng’s face was full of disgust, her hand clamped over her nose and occasionally fanning the air.
The house they were given was just an ordinary little three-room tile-roofed house, which already counted as the best building in the village. The rooms were rough, but still fairly clean, and Qiao Qiqi was reasonably satisfied.
Shui Qingcheng immediately started nitpicking, dissatisfied with everything, and even asked the village chief for new bedding. The old village chief was mortified—new bedding, no way. Their village was notoriously poor; where would new bedding come from?
"Village Chief, it’s getting late now, you should head back." Qiao Qiqi said.
"Hey, what am I going to eat tonight?" Shui Qingcheng asked.
"Oh, someone will be assigned to bring your meals," the village chief explained.
"What kind of food? If it’s too coarse, I can’t eat it." Shui Qingcheng put on the full young-lady act.
"If you can’t eat it, then go hungry! And shut up right now!" Qiao Qiqi suddenly exploded, startling both of them. The village chief almost jumped out of his skin; he hadn’t expected this pretty little girl to have such a fierce temper!
The village chief didn’t want any trouble and hurriedly turned and ran.
Shui Qingcheng wanted to flare up, but when she saw the cool, indifferent look in Qiao Qiqi’s eyes, she didn’t say a word and turned back into her own room.
Qiao Qiqi turned and went into the other room.
This was a typical rural house: three rooms, with the two side rooms as bedrooms and the middle room as a kitchen, no dining room.
Before long, she heard someone knocking on the door. Qiao Qiqi got up to open it, and a woman in her thirties was standing there, carrying a few steamed buns and a plate of vegetables to bring them their meal.
