Chapter 15: Nene's First Battle
Chapter 15: Nene's First Battle
"What?!"
The monk-demon stared at Tanjiro with disbelief, his voice filled with shock and astonishment.
He wasn't afraid of Tanjiro's sudden attack, but rather his understanding was completely overturned by the scene before him.
This fellow creature actually managed to suppress its demonic instincts!
[This brat... he didn't react at all to human flesh? No... no, he did react. That longing look in his eyes, the drool dripping from his mouth, all proved he wanted to eat it, but... why did he hold back? How could this be... how could this be... how... how could this be...]
"How is that possible? Are you a human or a ghost?!"
The monk-ghost roared almost madly.
The corners of his mouth, stained with blood, were twisted and deformed from extreme anger.
The enormous sound made the surrounding air tremble, and the burly body shook violently, the stench of blood on his body growing stronger.
The roar was so sudden that Tanjiro and Nezuko both trembled.
Tanjiro was taken aback, stopped in his tracks, and looked down at his sharp, long fingernails.
Tanjiro tremblingly reached out and touched the fangs that had grown out of his mouth.
The next second, he froze on the spot, seemingly pondering whether he was a human or a ghost.
"My brother is a human being!"
As Mizuko watched Tanjiro's frozen back, she instantly caught the confusion and wavering in his eyes.
Her heart tightened, and almost without hesitation, the veins on her hand gripping the axe bulged as she roared at the monk ghost in an almost resolute tone.
The next second, Midouzi gripped the axe tightly and strode towards the monk ghost.
Nezuko was incredibly fast, almost instantly overtaking Tanjiro. She leaped high into the air, raised her axe high with both hands, and swung it down towards the head of the monk demon.
This time, however, the monk demon didn't even glance at the approaching Nezuko. His scarlet eyes were fixed on Tanjiro, his mind filled with past obsessions.
As a former monk, even as I transformed into a demon, I desperately tried to suppress the urge to eat people. However… I failed. And the villagers I protected actually wanted to kill me! Ha! Well…
"Then you deserve to die!"
Just as Midouzi's axe was about to strike the monk ghost's head, the monk ghost suddenly raised his head, a hideous smile spreading across his face, his features contorted, appearing even more terrifying and eerie in the cold moonlight.
Ni Douzi was startled by this sudden appearance, and her heart tightened abruptly.
But by this point, the attack was already irreversible. She could only grit her teeth, grip the axe tightly with all her might, and bring it down fiercely on her target.
However, under the amplified effects of her senses, she clearly saw the monk demon's arm, which resembled a withered tree branch, suddenly rise.
The withered branch's fingertips converged into a sharp hand blade, carrying a chilling killing intent, and plunged straight towards its own heart.
【Oops!】
Such a lightning-fast exchange was clearly beyond the capabilities of Mizuko, who had no combat experience.
She was suspended in mid-air, completely out of balance, and had no time to make any dodging movements.
He could only watch helplessly as the monk-demon's hand blade and his own axe fell simultaneously toward each other's vital points.
Midouzi's heart sank, and she closed her eyes in despair, with only one thought remaining in her mind.
There's no escaping it, brother! Run! Survive!
"Die!"
The monk-demon grinned and spoke, his palm whistling as it drew closer and closer to Mizuko's heart.
Just as his palm was about to pierce through Mizuko's body, a figure suddenly rushed over from the side and slammed into Mizuko's suspended body!
"Pfft"
With a muffled thud, the monk ghost's hand pierced through another person's chest without any resistance, and blood gushed down from his fingertips, instantly staining the ground red.
Midouzi was hit hard and fell to the ground. His body rolled several times on the grass before stopping, and his whole body ached as if his bones were broken.
Ignoring the pain in her body, she immediately looked up and saw her brother Tanjiro taking the fatal blow for her.
At this moment, Tanjiro's body was firmly impaled in mid-air, and warm blood kept gushing from the wound on his chest, soaking his clothes and dripping down the hem.
He was trembling violently, but he gritted his teeth and didn't utter a single painful groan.
His scarlet eyes blazed with fury as he stared intently at the monk ghost before him, as if he would never loosen his grip on the other's arm, no matter how hard he tried.
As Midouzi looked at her brother, who was suspended in mid-air, her eyes instantly turned red as if they were about to bleed.
Her breathing suddenly became rapid and heavy, as if a huge rock was pressing down on her chest, and the immense pain almost swallowed her whole.
She bit her lip hard, her knuckles turned white from extreme anger as she gripped the axe, and her whole body trembled uncontrollably.
The monk demon withdrew his arm and looked at Tanjiro, who was still unwilling to let go despite having his body pierced through.
The ferocity on his face was gradually replaced by a deep sense of surprise. He tilted his head slightly, his eyes filled with confusion and bewilderment.
"You...are saving her?"
Why...?
The monk demon's voice deepened, and he tightened his grip slightly, trying to pull his hand out of Tanjiro's chest, but the other man held on even tighter.
"You're clearly a demon! Humans are our food! You actually gave up your life for food?"
Tanjiro let out a low, painful roar, shook his head with all his might, and stared intently at the monk demon.
"I don't understand how you did it." The monk demon stared at Tanjiro's stubborn face, his tone full of sinister mockery. "But you really are... an eyesore of an anomaly!"
As soon as he finished speaking, his other withered arm suddenly stretched out, his fingertips instantly transforming into sharp hand blades, slashing at Tanjiro's hands that were tightly gripping his arm with lightning speed.
Two soft "pfft" sounds.
Tanjiro's hands were chopped off by the monk demon's hand blade.
Tanjiro could no longer hold on, his body limply hanging on the monk demon's arm, a painful whimper escaping his throat, yet he still stared intently at the other.
A ruthless glint flashed in the monk's demon eyes, and he raised his other hand, ready to pierce Tanjiro's head.
But at this critical moment, he suddenly sensed a sharp killing intent coming from beside him.
His heart skipped a beat, and he immediately turned his arm around, slashing his hand fiercely in the direction from which the danger was coming.
With his hands gripping the axe tightly and his eyes burning with fury, Midouzi pressed his body down just as the monk's ghostly hand was about to strike, barely dodging the fatal blow.
A sharp knife grazed her head, and a few strands of hair fell out.
Before the monk demon could react, Nezuko suddenly stood up, gathered all her strength, gripped the axe handle tightly with both hands, and swung it upwards fiercely at the monk demon's arm that was piercing through Tanjiro's body!
"Pfft"
With a bang, the ear-piercing sound of an axe chopping flesh rang out instantly.
The monk ghost's thick arm then fell to the ground with a thud.
Tanjiro's body lost its support and plummeted towards the ground.
Without the slightest hesitation, Mizuko immediately stepped forward, caught her brother's body steadily, and turned to retreat quickly into the distance, completely escaping the attack range of the monk demon.
"Oh~?"
The monk ghost looked down at his empty severed arm, but instead of being angry, he grinned an even more ferocious smile.
"What an amazing girl! She actually managed to cut off my arm. This is getting interesting...!"
